Property Damage Procedure

General recommendations in case of damage
  • Identify and remove the causes that produced the damage you noticed.
  • Act so as to protect the assets and prevent the extension of the damage (losses occurring after the event, further to the failure of taking the necessary measures to prevent the extension of the damage, will not be indemnified).
  • Do not interfere by repairing the damaged assets and preserve them in view of their inspection / evaluation by the insurer.
Recommendations according to the type of the damage  
In case of fire:
  • Evacuate all personnel / persons on site
  • Notify the Fire Brigade and the Police at the telephone number 112 (in case of Fire Brigade intervention, request one counterpart of the intervention Protocol)
  • Try to extinguish the fire only if possible without endangering your life
  • Interrupt / Turn off the gas supply only if possible, without endangering your life
  • Interrupt / Switch off the electricity from the safety board only if possible, without endangering your life

In case of theft or destruction of assets by unknown persons:
  • Preserve the traces of the burglary or destruction
  • Call the Police at the telephone number 112.

In case of water pipe damages (including from the neighboring apartments):
  • Turn off the taps from the sanitary and heating facility (including those from the basement, if the case may be)
  • Call the Owners’ Association or the manager of the building, who shall assess the damages and later issue a proof regarding the occurrence of the event  

In case of natural disasters (earthquake, floods, landslides):
  • Evacuate the premises to a safe location
  • Call the Inspectorate for Emergency Cases at the telephone number 112 or the city hall.

Note: Irrespective of the nature of the damage, notify the insurer within the term stipulated in the insurance terms (usually 48 hours as of the occurrence of the event). The notification to Insurer should include the following information:
  • the identity of the person notifying the damage (name and contact details)
  • the place and date where the damage occurred
  • the circumstances causing the damage (description of the event)
  • the description of the damaged property
  • number of the insurance policy

Documents necessary to open a claim file 

After receiving the damage notification, an insurer representative shall go to the place of the event, take pictures and conclude an assessment protocol.

According to the nature of the damage, the documents necessary to open the claim file are including but not limited to the following:
  • insurance policy (copy),
  • documents proving the insurable interest (property/lease act, purchase invoices etc.) upon the insured goods (copy),
  • ID card of the insured or such of his representative (copy and original),
  • sketches/plans of the estate / site plans, if any (copy),
  • documents issued by the authorities / proof (certificate) from the Owners’ Association, respectively statement of the witnesses (copy),
  • supporting documents (repair or replacement contract /invoice issued by specialized companies).
The repairs or replacements of the damaged property must be performed only after the insurer’s assessment or after obtaining the insurer’s approval in this respect.
